Toshiba Satellite A20, A25 hinge repair. |

STEP 1
Turn the unit upside down.
Remove the battery.
|

STEP 2
Remove one screw securing the hard drive cover.
Remove four screws securing the heatsink and the CPU fan.
|
|
|
|
STEP 3
Disconnect the hard drive from the connector and remove it. |
|
|
|
STEP 4
Remove two screws securing the CPU fan.
Disconnect the fan cable on the system board and remove it.
Remove two screws securing the heatsink and carefully lift it off the CPU. |

STEP 5
Remove two screws securing the DVD drive and remove it from the laptop.
|
|
|
|
STEP 6
Removed all marked screws on the bottom of the computer.
|
|
|
|
STEP 7
Turn the laptop right side up.
Insert a thin object under the keyboard securing strip and lift it up.
Be careful, it may be very tight.

|

STEP 8
Remove the securing strip.
|
|
|
|
STEP 9
Remove three screws and a metal brace securing the keyboard.
Lift off the keyboard and place it on the palmrest. |
|
|
|
STEP 10
Remove one screw securing a metal plate over the keyboard connector and remove the plate.
|
|
|
|
STEP 11
Disconnect the keyboard cable on the system board.
Remove the keyboard.
|
|
|

STEP 12
Remove four screws securing the top cover / display assembly to the laptop base.
|
|
|
|
STEP 13
Now you can access the memory modules. Spread the latches securing the memory module and remove it from the slot. |

STEP 14
Disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the wireless card.
Spread the latches to release the wireless card and remove it from the socket. |

STEP 15
Disconnect the speacker cables on the system board.
Disconnect the laptop display cables on the system board.
|
|
|
|
STEP 16
Using a guitar pick start to separate top cover / display assembly from the base.
|
|
|
|
STEP 17
Release all latches on the back of the laptop, so you can separate the top cover and the base. |
|
|
|
STEP 18
Carefully lift off the top cover assembly starting from the back of the laptop. |
|
|
|
|
STEP 19
Remove the top cover / display assembly. |
|
|
|
STEP 20
Remove two LCD mask seals.
Remove two screws hidden under seals.
|
|
|

STEP 21
Put your fingers between the mask and the LCD screen and carefully release the mask latches.
Do not hurry; twist the mask slightly to release the latches.

STEP 22
Remove the LCD screen mask.
|
|
|
|
STEP 23
Remove one screw securing the FL inverter board to the LCD cover.
Disconnect cables on both ends of the FL inverter board.
Remove the FL inverter.

STEP 24
Remove four screws securing the LCD screen to the display cover.
Remove the LCD screen and place it on the palmrest. |

STEP 25
Disconnect the video cable on the back of the LCD screen.
Remove the LCD screen. |

STEP 26
Now you can access the display hinges and remove/replace it.
Close the laptop lid and turn it over.

Remove the white mylar cover to get access to the hinges and the laptop speakers.
|
|
|
|
STEP 28
Remove eight screws securing the hinges to the laptop base.
Remove the speaker cables from its route.
|
|
|
|
STEP 29
Open the laptop lid and remove both speakers through the opening in the top cover.
|
|
|
|
STEP 30
Place the top cover / display assembly the right side up.
Remove six screws securing the hinges to the display cover.
|
|
|
|
STEP 31
Remove the old hinges through the opening in the top cover. |
|
|
|
STEP 32
Replace the broken hinges.
