Toshiba Satellite M500, M500D, M505, M505D screen replacement.
Warning! This is not the proper way to remove and replace the screen. Ideally you should disassemble the whole laptop, remove the display panel and only after that take it apart and remove the LCD screen.
I will remove the LCD screen without separating the display panel from the base. This might cause damage to your laptop. Be very careful if you decide to follow my guide and proceed on your own risk. |
STEP 1
Turn off the laptop and remove the battery.
There are four screw covers on the LCD screen bezel.
Remove all four covers and screws found under those covers.
STEP 2
You can remove the screw cover with a sharp object.
One side of the screw cover is sticky. Glue all covers somewhere on the screen bezel so they don't get lost.
STEP 3
Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover on the top.
Work slowly, try not to break to many latches. :)
A guitar pick or another piece of soft plastic could help a lot.
STEP 4
Continue separating the screen bezel.
STEP 5
Remove two screws securing the mounting bracket on the top of the LCD screen.
STEP 6
Remove three screws on the right side of the screen.
You'll have limited access to one of the screws.
STEP 7
Remove three more screws from the left side of the screen. |
STEP 8
Very very carefully separate the LCD screen from the display cover so you can access the video cable connection on the back.
Unfortunately, in this model the video cable connector is located on the bottom of the screen. It's hard to access this connector but possible.
Again, work slowly. |
STEP 9
Remove yellow tape securing the cable.
Disconnect video cable from the connector on the LCD screen.
STEP 10
Remove the LCD screen. |
STEP 11
You'll have to remove the mounting bracket from the top of the screen and transfer it to a new screen.
Before you remove the bracket, take a closer look how it's seated on the screen. |
STEP 12
The LCD screen has been removed. |
STEP 13
Now you have another challenge - install the LCD screen back into the laptop.
Toshiba Satellite M500/M505/M505D laptop comes with a LED backlit display, so you will not find the inverter board inside the display panel. |
