Toshiba Portege M205 disassembly.

STEP 1
Turn the unit upside down.
Remove the battery.
Remove one screw securing the hard drive cover and one screw securing the memory card cover. Remove all covers.

|
STEP 2
Remove the laptop hard drive disk.
Remove the memory modules.
|
|
|
|
STEP 3
Remove all marked screws on the bottom of the laptop.
|
|
|
|
STEP 4
Turn the laptop right side up.
Insert a thin object under the securing strip and lift it up.
Be careful, it may be very tight. |
|

|
STEP 5
Remove the keyboard securing strip. |
|
|
|
STEP 6
Remove two screws securing the keyboard.
Turn the keyboard over and place it on the palmrest upside down. |
|
|
|
STEP 7
Disconnect the flat keyboard cable on the system board and remove the keyboard. |
|
|
|
STEP 8
Disconnect the notebook touchpad cable on the system board.
Disconnect the LED board cable on the system board. |
|
|
|
STEP 9
Disconnect the laptop speaker cable on the system board.
|
|
|
|
STEP 10
Close the laptop and turn it upside down. Do not close the LCD latch, leave it open. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board. |

|
|
STEP 11
Carefully separate the base from the top cover assembly. Make sure that the LCD latch is not closed. |
|
|
|
STEP 12
Lift off the base assembly and remove it.
|
|
|
|
STEP 13
Remove two screws securing a metal plate over the wireless card. |
|
|
|
STEP 14
Disconnect the wireless card antenna cables and remove the wireless card. |
|
|
|
STEP 15
Remove two screws securing the modem card to the system board.
Disconnect the modem card cable on the system board (top of the picture).
Remove the modem card with the cable. |

|
|
STEP 16
Disconnect the tablet mode switch cable on the system board.
Disconnect the CPU fan cable on the system board.
Remove six screws securing the heatsink and the cooling fan and lift if off. |

STEP 17
Remove two screws securing the LCD harness holder.
Disconnect the FL inverter cable on the system board (the bottom of the picture).
Disconnect the RTC battery and the microphone cable on the system board. |
|
|
|
STEP 18
Lift off the LCD harness holder with cables and put it away from the system board.
Disconnect two LCD cables.
|
|
|
|
STEP 19
Remove screws securing the system board to the top cover assembly. |
|
|
|
STEP 20
Carefully lift off the system board. |
|
|
|
STEP 21
Remove the system board.
|
|
|
|
STEP 22
Remove the sound card plastic cover.
|
|
|
|
STEP 23
Turn the CPU lock to unlock position.
Carefully lift off the CPU.
|
|
|
|

Done!!! |

After I replaced the system board and almost assembled everything back I noticed that the CPU fan connector is missing. Cool!!! I have to order and replace the system board again. |
