Toshiba Satellite S855, S855D, S850, S850D disassembly.

STEP 1
Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off.
Remove the battery.
|
|
|
|
STEP 2
Remove one screw securing the memory and hard drive cover.
Lift up the cover and remove it from the laptop.
|
|
|
|
STEP 3
Under the cover you can access both memory modules, CMOS battery and hard drive.
Remove one screw securing the hard drive mounting bracket to the laptop.
Slide the hard drive assembly to the right to disconnect it from the motherboard. |

STEP 4
Lift up and remove the hard drive assembly.
If you are replacing the hard drive you'll have to transfer the mounting bracket to the new drive.

STEP 5
Remove one screw securing the optical (DVD) drive.
Slide the DVD drive to the right and pull it from the laptop. |
|
|
|
STEP 6
In the DVD drive bay you'll find an opening in the top cover assembly.
We'll use it for removing the keyboard. |
|
|
|
STEP 7
Push on the keyboard though the opening.
One side of the keyboard will lift up. |
|
|
|
STEP 8
Insert a piece of plastic (I'm using the guitar pick) under the keyboard and continue separating the keyboard from the top cover. |
|

|
STEP 9
Continue removing the keyboard. |
|
|
|
STEP 10
Be careful when you lift up the keyboard. It's still attached to the motherboard.
Before you can remove the keyboard completely you'll have to unlock the connector and release the cable. |

|
STEP 11
The cable connector located right under the keyboard.
In the following two steps I explain how to unlock the connector and release the keyboard cable. |

STEP 12
The keyboard cable jammed between the white connector base and brown retainer.
In order to release the cable it's necessary to move the retainer about 1-2 millimeters towards the screen.
WARNING! The retainer must remain connected to the connector base. |

STEP 13
On this picture you can see the connector in the unlocked position.
Now you can pull the keyboard cable from the connector and remove the keyboard. |

STEP 14
The keyboard has been removed.
|
|
|
|
STEP 15
Remove all screws from the bottom of the laptop. |
|
|
|
STEP 16
In Toshiba Satellite S855/S855D laptop the motherboard mounted to the top cover assembly.
Start removing the bottom cover from the laptop. |

|
STEP 17
You can use the same piece of plastic to separate the bottom cover from the top cover. |
|
|
|
STEP 18
Continue separating the bottom cover from the top cover. |
|
|
|
STEP 19
Remove the bottom cover from the laptop. |
|
|
|
STEP 20
When the bottom cover removed you can access the following components:
- Cooling fan.
- Wireless card.
- DC jack.
- USB board.
- Touchpad. |

STEP 21
In order to remove the cooling fan you'll have to remove two screws securing the fan and disconnect the fan cable. |
|
|
|
STEP 22
Remove the cooling fan from the laptop. |
|
|
|
STEP 23
The DC power jack mounted in the upper right corner of the laptop.
If the DC jack fails, you can unplug the cable from the motherboard and replace it with a new DC jack harness.
In the next guide I'll show how to remove the screen. |
